Agencia Ocote
Guatemala
Independent Guatemalan digital media outlet, founded predominantly by women, documenting care work since 2020.
Agencia Ocote is an independent Guatemalan digital media outlet founded predominantly by women. Its journalism brings a Central American perspective into dialogue with culture and critical thought. It also runs training programs, hosts public discussions, and fact-checks public discourse. Since 2020, its gender coverage has documented care work: who does it, how much it is worth, and what the state owes those involved. In 2025, it published the special series “El trabajo invisible” (“Invisible Work”), with featured stories, interviews, podcasts, photography, and essays on care in Guatemala and Honduras. In 2026, it continued this coverage with further reporting and a short documentary, and convened the public discussion “La República Descuidada” (“The Uncared-for Republic”), bringing together civil society organizations and representatives of Guatemala’s Congress.
