Chocó Is Rebuilt with Care
As part of the social recovery efforts following the earthquake that occurred on August 10, 2026, the Chocó Governor’s Office, through the Secretariat of Social Integration, is carrying out the campaign “Chocó Rebuilds with Care,” in coordination with the Departmental Care System and the “Life-Protecting Environments” strategy.
The strategy recognizes that the reconstruction of the region involves not only the physical restoration of affected areas but also the strengthening of family, community, and institutional relationships; the protection of the most vulnerable populations; emotional support; and the creation of opportunities to address the challenges arising from the emergency.
In this context, the digital strategy aims to expand the campaign’s reach through awareness-raising, guidance, and social mobilization content directed primarily at families, caregivers, teachers, and young people.
Priority will be given to messages related to the care and protection of children, older adults, and people with disabilities, as well as initiatives targeting youth, recognizing that young people also face multiple situations of vulnerability associated with the earthquake’s impacts, the dynamics of violence and armed conflict, and limited opportunities to build their life plans.
For this reason, the youth component will include a specific initiative: the participatory development of the Comprehensive Pathway for Care, Guidance, and Access to Services for Youth in Chocó, as a tool to bring young people closer to institutional frameworks, facilitate access to services and opportunities, and strengthen their care and protection networks.
“After an earthquake, rebuilding also means caring.”
Chocó is rebuilt with care when families, caregivers, teachers, young people, institutions, and communities come together to protect, support, and ensure the well-being of those who need it most.
The campaign seeks to position care as a collective responsibility in the post-earthquake recovery process, promoting the protection of rights, emotional support, risk prevention, self-care, collective care, and the strengthening of support networks.
The reconstruction of Chocó also means caring for people, restoring connections, creating opportunities, and building alternatives to move forward.
