From Observance to Collective Mobilization
The commemoration of the International Day of Care and Support marked a milestone in the struggle to have care recognised as a right. However, without collective mobilisation that brings together all sectors, care remains confined to the private sphere, invisible and precarious. Moving towards a model that recognises the value of care and drives political and social transformation requires the participation and commitment of multiple stakeholders.
In 2024, with this objective in mind, the Global Alliance for Care brought together and connected various activities through a Collective Agenda, a calendar compiling 81 initiatives organised or co-organised by Alliance members as part of the International Day: 47 virtual, in-person and hybrid events, 27 campaigns and 7 care-related publications. Taking place across different regions, these initiatives explored the links between care and areas such as decent work, gender equality, disability, social protection, childhood, ageing, cities and sustainable development.
The mobilisation was further expanded with the launch of the 24-Hour Care Channel, a space that has enabled members to increase the visibility of their events and showcase the diversity of activities taking place around the world in connection with the International Day. Over 24 uninterrupted hours, the channel broadcast audiovisual content focused on the care and support agenda, providing access to events, discussions and initiatives regardless of time zone.
